Before the Air Trainer 1, there was no shoe that existed cross-discipline, if you wanted to go running, lifting weights, or hitting the court, you needed a separate shoe for each activity. It was this issue, sneaker designing legend Tinker Hatfield sought to fill and in 1987 the Air Trainer 1 was born. This iteration features an eclectic upper of various materials, with mesh panelling on the laterals, suede from the forefoot to the heel and canvas on the toe and tongue. The signature fore-foot strap has been swapped out with a hiking buckle while swirls of reflective 3M roll along the forefoot, heel, collar and swoosh. The upper then rests on an Air unit encapsulated in a chunky, yellow midsole on top of a grey rubber outsole.
